Consider Birds

*Lesson Eight*

Live Freely & Lightly

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,

and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,

for I am gentle and humble in heart,

and you will find rest for your souls.

For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Matthew 11: 28-30 (NIV)

Daily, I need to remind myself of this verse right here.

To believe it.

Because sometimes I don't.

Sometimes I think His yoke is too hard, but the truth is that it is easy and light.

I have to remember this.

I have to shift my focus to this.

It is a practice.

It is not a habit for me.  That is why I have to practice.  To learn.

It is a choice.

When I take the time to remember and believe these words,

it is part of the process of trading in my anxiety

for the weightless, relief-giving peace of mind that is freely given.

This is the trade:

weariness, burden, heavy-laden, burned out, tired

rest: rest for your souls.

Let's trade it in today.

Creating A Hymnal Page Canvas

~New Life For Old Things~

You can use any discarded book pages for this project,

but I was given four hymnals recently

and I love the idea of

"wonderful words of life" peeking through

the layers of art.

Friends have given me old hymnals and prayer books

in the German language which are fun to use as well.

I love the hunt at antique stores, shows and flea markets

for old interesting pages that I can use in my collage work.

Sometimes I use discarded textbooks from the 1930's-60's.

Often local libraries are giving away books.

I see this as a way of giving new life and meaning to old things.

Bird Thought For You:

Did you hear the flock of geese flying over as I shared this project?

To me, it seemed to be a delightful honking of encouragement.

They flew directly over my studio as I worked and recorded

with my windows wide open.

Did you know that early Celtic believers referred

to the Holy Spirit as the "Wild Goose"?

The name described the unfettered, free, and wild nature of God.*

John 3:8

The wind blows wherever it pleases.

You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going.

So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

Gives a little different spin on "wild goose chase" doesn't it?
